At the Heart of Every Quilt: The Words that Turn into Art
Join Claire for story time-because there's a good one behind each of her pieces. She'll let you in on the secret of her success with
custom-designed quilts, the fun of group collaborations, and a few of her personal stories that made their way into her quilts. Digital
slide show followed by a small trunk show.
Bio:
Claire began sewing at 12 on a foot-powered Singer treadle machine while living in Japan as a young teenager. Back in the states, she continued to sew, designing and constructing over 150 period costumes during high school and college. In 1990, she was introduced (by Lura Schwartz-Smith) to the possibilities of using quilting techniques for making wall hangings, and she’s been hanging things on walls instead of in closets ever since.
Her formal training is in Counseling and English. Claire is currently an instructional designer and project manager for Web-based training programs. In former lives she was a career counselor, foreign student advisor, cultural diversity consultant, and instructor of English as a Second Language in classrooms with adults from over 40 countries.
Claire has two grown children married and out in the world, but two loving cats needing almost as much attention. Kitsap County has been her home since 1994.
